How To Use These Study Helps Each
word entry contains the Greek word and a transliteration for pronouncing the
word. It will have dictionary meanings
(sometimes called ‘glosses’). The
actual meaning of the word is always derived from the context in which the
word is used. That is why in most
cases, all the references in the Greek New Testament are given for the Greek
word under consideration. Also, if
possible, part of each reference is included in the treatment of the
word. The goal is for the user of this
study help to read every place a certain Greek word is used in the New
Testament, no matter how it is translated into English, so he or she can gain
the sense of how the original word is used in its context. In summary: read
each word in its context remembering that it is the same underlying Greek
word. Pray and think about how its meaning in one context could help define
the same word in another context. |
